🎉Another exciting message from Superintendent Wallace -
I'm thrilled to announce Mrs. Amber Taeger as our new Spanish Teacher and Activities Director beginning in the '24-'25 school year! Amber's background as both a seasoned Spanish educator and a multi-sport coach, alongside her current leadership role as President of the Danville Rec League, uniquely qualify her for this position. She has a strong passion, work ethic, and eagerness to help Danville's Athletics, Fine Arts and all extracurricular activities become the best programs in the state. Please see a message below from Amber and join me in welcoming her to the Danville Community School District!
My name is Amber Taeger, and I am thrilled to be taking on the position of Activities Director and Spanish Teacher at Danville for the upcoming school year. I am very passionate and enthusiastic about second language acquisition and extracurricular activities, and know the potential impact these things can have on the lives of our students.
I have been an athlete since I can remember and was always busy and involved in a variety of activities. As I got older I became more curious about the world outside of my small Oquawka, Illinois community. In high school, that curiosity led to me to take four years of Spanish with an incredible teacher, with a trip to Mexico my senior year to work in a school in San Pancho. It was then when I gained a love for travel, languages, and learning about the cultures of the world. I was always competing, and I went on to college in Illinois, where I studied competed in both volleyball and softball while studying Spanish and psychology, and was able to study abroad in both Guadalajara, Mexico and Madrid, Spain.
After college I married my husband Luke, who grew up in the Danville Community School District. After obtaining my Masters of Teaching I taught and coached volleyball in Dubuque before spending 12 years in Burlington, teaching Spanish and coaching with the volleyball program. My last five years at Burlington I was the head volleyball coach. In the last two years I have been teaching in Mediapolis where I was able to attend the ACTFL conference on the teaching of foreign languages and was selected to be a member of the Advisory Council for the Central States, representing 14 states that span the Midwest. I was also selected to be a host at the Central States National Conference in Minneapolis. In addition, I’m currently a member of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, and can’t wait to get more involved in that organization to represent Danville as well.
I’m also part of an amazing group of people who run the Danville Rec League, and I am so thankful for them and for that experience, because it has gotten me more involved with our tight-knit community.
My love for travel has pushed me to become a travel advisor for secondary student international trips. I’ve been able to successfully take high school students to Spain and Panama, and have I also future trips planned for Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic. I’m thrilled to bring this travel program with me to Danville as well.
The chance to combine my love for athletics and activities, and Spanish, and make it my job, really feels like a dream. I am very passionate about building relationships and connections with the students and staff that I work with, and firmly believe that is the key to helping students reach their highest potential. All kids have hobbies and interests, and things that drive them to want to be successful, and our job as educators is to figure out what those things are for each individual student. At Danville, I want to make sure that we are continuing to offer a plethora of clubs, activities, and sports and are reaching every single student in some way or another. There are amazing things happening in the Danville Community School District, and I’m so excited to bring with me the experiences and knowledge that I have to contribute to the ongoing tradition of excellence that is present here.
My husband Luke and I, and our three children reside right here in the Danville District. In the fall, my son Jack will be entering 5th grade, my oldest daughter Jadyn will be going into 3rd grade, and my youngest daughter Diem will be starting kindergarten. I have a very vested interest in the success of the students in Danville and in the school district as a whole, and I know together we can achieve amazing things. I’m always open to questions and ideas, and encourage individuals to reach out to me with any feedback they may have. I believe that all of my experiences have led me to this exact spot, and I can’t wait to get started!
